Portugal

From the north to the south we witness incredible sights all along the way. It's one of the most romantic countries in the world. Beaches, lighthouses, music, wine, dancing. It's hard not to fall in love with Portugal. You could even say impossible. We explore medieval cities and watch incredible sunsets. We wander through enchanted mystical forests and extravagant castles. We hitchhike directly to the beach and camp on the cliffs of the Atlantic ocean. It's the perfect blend of adventure and romance.

Wild and without borders: Where cultures fuse in Granada

It’s 2AM and we’re waiting for the bus to Granada. Today was our last day in Portugal. For the last few hours we’ve been hanging out in the hostel common room, preparing sandwiches for our journey and generally abusing our stay. We only paid for one night, and we were supposed to check out at […]

City to sea: A day trip to Sintra

Sintra. It’s one of the most popular tourist destinations in Portugal and it encompasses a huge swath of land including castles, palaces, gardens, hills, forests, beaches and royal estates. It also comes complete with its own micro climate. The area is huge and we know we’ll only be able to dent it, and because it’s […]

Benagil to Faro: All along the Algarve

It was absolute ordeal getting to the Algarve & Benagil, much more complicated than many other trips we’ve recently made. Like when we hitchhiked all the way across Switzerland on a sightseeing tour. Wild and without a campground: Lisbon to Benagil

Leaving Lisbon for the Algarve seems to be a bit of a problem. We have plans to get to nearby Benagil caves and beach and wild camp somewhere on the beach or cliffs. Before we can even consider that though we need to get south. Train and Bus are out of our budget. We toy […]

Tracing trams to find Lisbon’s liveliest lookouts

It’s dark outside as our train shuffles into Lisbon. We attempted to hitchhike here from Aveiro but failed miserably so opted for the train. In a sense quite fitting since for the last few weeks I’ve been reading The night train to Lisbon. A romantic account of a Swiss professor leaving behind his life for […]

Wild and without hitchhiking: Aveiro

We’re off to Aveiro! After spending way longer than we had planned in Porto, it’s time to move on. As usual we’re sad to leave. Porto has been spectacular in every way imaginable. Incredible food, beautiful people, stunning architecture, beaches, nostalgic trams, cheap beers, warm weather, you name it. Today we are going to hitchhike […]

Essential Porto: Top 10 authentic things to do

Porto, what a city! We don’t usually write these types of posts, for us it’s mostly about the journey rather than the destination. Especially when it comes to hitchhiking, driving and camping in foreign countries. Most of our stories come from the detours, disasters and downright crazy situations we always seem to end up in. […]

Wild and without enough time: Catalonia to Portugal

And so begins one of the longest journeys of our European hitchhiking travels. We have one more brief stop in Catalonia and then we need to get to Portugal, for we have lost a lot of time. Originally we had planned to hitchhike through northern Spain to Portugal and down to Porto. We have come […]
