Hitchhiking

Read about our adventures on the road - the exhilaration of being picked up for the first time hitchhiking before we even wrote the sign, being stuffed in the boot of a car, entertaining Swiss children in France, being dropped off in the freezing middle of nowhere on a mountain and the struggles of communicating without knowing the local language. We met incredible people from every imaginable demographic who spared their time to help us on our journey and we are eternally grateful!

St. Gallen: Sneaky shots and vintage vibes

Wahoo, we have crossed our first border as hitchhikers! It’s been an eventful journey to St. Gallen that started early in our beloved Innsbruck. We love Innsbruck so much, we wrote not one but two posts about it! We splurged on a room there last night. When I say splurged, I mean a room without […]

Wild and never without schnaps: Innsbruck

We’re leaving our little paradise on Gerlosberg today for a contrasting program. Innsbruck! How will we feel in a city after all this time in the quiet and peaceful countryside? How will it compare to our stay in Salzburg? Only time will tell. One problem with the countryside, apart from zero nightlife, is getting around. […]

Wild and without a destination: Gerlosberg

We’ve been out in the cold long enough now so we’ve decided to take a break from the tent and sleep indoors. Caroline has found a room in our budget somewhere between Kaprun and Innsbruck on a mountain named Gerlosberg. We’re really excited because it looks mega cute and cosy. There is no public transport […]

Wild and without a tent: Salzburg

It’s sunny in Wolfgangsee today. The first sun we’ve seen in days! Slightly frustrating because we’re leaving and the temptation to stay is strong – but we must press on, we’re couchsurfing tonight in Salzburg. We’re a bit nervous, it’s our first time couchsurfing together and the first time either of us is doing so […]

Wild and without a ticket: Wolfgangsee & Schafbergbahn

We’re on the road to Salzburg area – it’s only our third time hitchhiking and we’re apprehensive – the last time didn’t go so well. We want to get to a campsite on Wolfgangsee, a beautiful lake in the Salzkammergut region of Austria.  There are two ramps on to the Autobahn in Schladming and we’re not sure […]

Wild and without a ride: Spiegelsee

It’s cold. It’s raining. Not only is there not a pub open in this god forsaken village, but there is also no traffic in it; understandably I guess. We’re leaving Tragöß and Grüner See for new adventures to Spiegelsee and the surroundings at Schladming. We wave our biker friends good bye as they screech past our […]

Wild and without a clue how to hitchhike

Hitchhiking for over three months, carrying all of your belongings and shelter in your rucksack requires a lot preparation and money. After spending many, many smackers on equipment, from a tent to a french press (Girl needs her coffee!), only to discover in the process that so many more items are needed, you have to […]
